Arsenal remain strongly interested in Alvarez, with Andrea Berta and Mikel Arteta both big fans of the 26-year-old.

The Gunners face a strong battle to land him this summer, but their chances remain hopeful after Alvarez’s latest message to them.

Julian Alvarez is open to joining Arsenal

Julian Alvarez has directly informed Arsenal that he is ‘very open’ to join them should Barcelona be unable to sign him, according to HandofArsenal.

The striker is dreaming of a move to Camp Nou this summer and is believed to have already agreed personal terms with Barca.

The Catalan club were keen for the 26-year-old to go public over his desire to move in order to force through a deal.

It is yet to be seen whether Barcelona would be able to finance a deal for Alvarez or if Atletico would be open to selling him to a La Liga rival.

The Spanish club are unwilling to be bullied into selling the striker this summer and will only do so on their terms.

Reports from Spain have claimed that Atletico are open to a swap deal with Viktor Gyokeres plus around £52 million in cash.

Atleti’s interest in Gyokeres could hand the Gunners a key advantage in the race to sign Alavarez and see them avoid paying such a big fee.

Real Madrid had a £130 million bid rejected for Alvarez, and Arsenal would likely need to pay a similar amount to stand any chance of getting him.

Therefore, using Gyokeres as a makeweight in any deal could be great for the North London club and help them to beat off competition from Barca.
