Arsenal secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Wolves yesterday and Ruben Neves was arguably the hosts’ best player.

The Portuguese international has been a target for Arsenal for a few months now. Mikel Arteta wanted to sign him last summer but Granit Xhaka’s failed Roma move meant we didn’t need the Wolves man. (Read here)

Rumours have led us to believe that Arsenal will look at Neves again in the summer but his comments after the game last night may just force Arteta to look at other options.

Ruben Neves aimed a dig at Arsenal last night

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men last night after Gabriel Martinelli saw a red card. We played the last 20 minutes plus stoppage time with a man down and that gave Wolves a huge advantage.

However, even after they threw everything at our defence, we held on and picked up a well-deserved win. Arsenal players were delighted after the game and celebrated with the away fans.

That, for some reason, irked Neves and he had a go at us after the game.

“We saw the way they celebrated the win and that shows the level we are. I didn’t see Arsenal celebrating like this in the past 10 years – it was like they won the league,” Neves told BBC Sport.

Disciplinarian Arteta will not like that

If there’s one thing that Arteta has demanded at Arsenal, it’s a high level of discipline – both on and off the pitch.

The likes of Mesut Ozil, Matteo Guendouzi and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang were all shown the door after disciplinary issues, and Arteta also made it clear this week that a character of a player he wants to sign is more important to him than their ability. (Arsenal.com)

If Xhaka does move on in the summer and Arsenal do need a midfielder, Neves would be a fantastic option. However, his comments will surely have irked Arteta and the Gunners boss may decide that he’s not the right person for our squad.

Neves may then regret his comments, but it will be too late.
