Arsenal target Alexander Isak was missing for Newcastle United in the Premier League fixture against the Gunners, which has led to fans all making the same tongue-in-cheek comment on social media platforms.

Arsenal-linked Isak looks to be top of Mikel Arteta’s wishlist this summer, with the North London side absolutely desperate for a striker to lead the line next season.

Isak has been sensational in the Premier League this season, and it’s no surprise Arsenal fans are desperate for their side to secure his signature.

Alas, Isak wasn’t available for a final audition at The Emirates on Sunday evening. He missed the game through injury – which has led to a comment in jest being repeated constantly on X.

Arsenal fans make Alexander Isak joke after absence for Newcastle

Arsenal fans are all joking that the reason Isak missed the Premier League clash is because he doesn’t want to play against his ‘parent club’.

‘Isak doesn’t want to play against his parent club, understandable,’ one writes.

Another adds: ‘Can understand Isak refusing to play against the club he’s joining in the summer. He’s hardly going to want to prevent his future club from securing Champions League place.’

One more jokes: ‘Isak not wanting to play against his future club. What a man.’

Another jests: ‘I forgot that Isak couldn’t play today because he can’t play against his parent club.’

Why Alexander Isak was missing for Arsenal vs Newcastle clash

Of course – this in fact wasn’t the reason the Swede was missing from the action on Sunday evening.

Isak was missing due to a groin injury. Newcastle boss Eddie Howe stated that it’s “nothing serious but enough to keep him out today”.

Isak is rarely injured for Newcastle, which again is one of the major plus points for anyone thinking about securing his signature.

Kai Havertz has had injury issues this year for the Gunners, which led to the unorthodox deployment of Mikel Merino as a striker, but that isn’t a viable long-term option moving forward.

Will Isak move to Arsenal in the summer? Only time will tell.
