Greek media say three Arsenal players stood out the most against Olympiacos

Greek media have shone the spotlight on three Arsenal players after the Gunners’ Champions League win over Olympiacos.

Arsenal beat Olympiacos 2-0 in a Champions League contest of two halves at the Emirates, with the hosts dominating the first and the visitors applying the pressure in the second.

Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka got on the scoresheet, but it was the masterminds behind the goal who really stole the show.

Viktor Gyokeres impressed against Olympiacos, and Martin Odegaard was unplayable, but Greek media wanted to split the MVP award between three Arsenal players.

Greece’s media praise Gabriel Martinelli, Martin Odegaard and David Raya after Olympiacos win

Olympiacos’ captain was eager to praise David Raya, who pulled off a sublime save in the opening 20 minutes.

Greek media outlets also wanted to give a shout-out to Raya, as Gazetta Greece nominated three Arsenal players for their MVP of the Match award. 

The website praised Martinelli, Odegaard and Raya after watching Olympiacos’ defeat at the Emirates.

“Martinelli for his goal, Odegaard for the quality he produced, and Raya for his saves are in this category.”

Owen Hargreaves was stunned by Raya’s save, as the goalkeeper rightly earned a lot of praise, but the night undoubtedly belonged to Arsenal’s captain.

Odegaard and Gyokeres clicked against Olympiacos, which allowed the playmaker to really show his creative excellence when playing behind the front line of attack.

It wasn’t until the 92nd minute that the Norwegian earned a goal contribution, but his influence on the game was evident in virtually every minute of play.

The numbers reinforce just how much of an impact Odegaard had on the contest, scoring highly in the expected goals and assists metric.

Most prominently, the 26-year-old recorded four key passes, two of which amounted to big chances.

Odegaard was borderline unplayable at times, as seen by Olympiacos fouling him three times in an attempt to get him off the ball.

It was a performance that encapsulated Odegaard at his very best, a level of form that fans will want to see carried on throughout the season.
