Arsenal’s Premier League title chances have been given a huge boost following their 4-1 victory against Manchester City.
Having entered the game nine points behind league leaders Liverpool – it was ultimately a must-win for Mikel Arteta’s men.
Several players impressed at the Emirates – with Myles Lewis-Skelly earning praise from fans for his performance.
Putting five past the reigning champions is no small feat, especially when you take Arsenal’s goalscoring struggles into account – something which has been highlighted by Gunners legend Ian Wright.

Ian Wright praises Arsenal’s performance vs Man City
Arsenal’s five-star performance may come as a surprise to some supporters, having struggled to put teams away in recent weeks.
The Gunners however would have no such problem against the Citizens, with Wright highlighting Arsenal’s ruthless nature in front of goal as the key difference at the Emirates (via Premier League).
“I did say at the start you have to respect City but what has been happening with Arsenal is chances. They’ve had chances in games and not taken them and then other teams have got into the games.
“Today they were so well drilled and got the goals. Everyone’s confidence rose and that is what we are capable of doing.”
Arsenal’s attack comes alive against Manchester City
Wright predicted Arsenal to beat Man City prior to the game and the former striker’s premonition would come true, with the Gunners providing a dominant display.
Despite only racking up 1.04 in terms of xG, Arsenal would put five past Pep Guardiola’s side – showing they do have the capacity to be clinical in front of goal.
| Game stats | Arsenal | Man City |
| xG | 1.04 | 0.81 |
| Total shots | 12 | 7 |
| Shots on target | 7 | 4 |
| Big chances | 2 | 1 |
Wright called for Arsenal to sign a forward before the January deadline – they however may not need one if they can replicate that attacking performance more often.
