Arsenal fans are rejoicing over news of Myles Lewis-Skelly committing his future to the club.
Lewis-Skelly’s new Arsenal contract was confirmed by the club and the Hale End star has penned a 5-year deal.
Mikel Arteta will be delighted to have secured one of Europe’s brightest young stars and Lewis-Skelly was given an emotional surprise upon signing his new deal with friends and family in attendance.
Real Madrid were interested in Lewis-Skelly but the 18-year-old had only eyes for Arsenal and the club’s new sporting director Andrea Berta played a significant role in negotiations.

Andrea Berta impressed Myles Lewis-Skelly with his knowledge of the player
According to the Athletic, whilst Berta was not the main protagonist during Lewis-Skelly’s contract talks, the Italian ‘impressed’ the youngster’s camp.
The report stated: “Within weeks of his arrival, Berta had reached out to introduce himself to the Lewis-Skelly camp. Despite being new in the job, he impressed with his knowledge of the player.
“Berta makes a habit of watching training at London Colney and has been struck by Lewis-Skelly’s personality and ability.”

Contract negotiations were started by interim sporting director Jason Ayto back in March and Berta stood back from Lewis-Skelly’s talks.
James King, Arsenal’s director of football operations was the key to the deal but it was clear that Berta helped to convince the Gunners star that the Emirates Stadium was the right home for him.
Andrea Berta’s attention to detail is great for Arsenal
After a quiet start to the summer transfer window, Arsenal and Berta are springing into action and fans are expecting an exciting ride.
Arsenal are set to sign Christian Norgaard from Brentford and the announcements of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martin Zubimendi are expected imminently.

Berta’s role in Lewis-Skelly’s contract will only serve to give optimism that deals can also be struck for key figures such as Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, as well as fellow academy product Ethan Nwaneri.
The Gunners have lacked decisiveness in transfer and contract negotiations over the years and it now appears the Italian is taking his new role by storm.
