Arsenal confirm Mikel Merino transfer signing
Arsenal have confirmed their second first-team signing of the summer by landing Mikel Merino on a permanent deal from Real Sociedad.
The Spaniard joins on a deal worth roughly £31.6million, with a contract at the Emirates Stadium lasting until 2028 – with the option of an extra year.
It bolsters the midfield options available to Mikel Arteta as he looks to guide his team towards the Premier League title.

Merino joins Riccardo Calafiori as the only addition over the summer transfer window, with a few other deals expected.
It remains to be seen which other players could make their way to Arsenal when the window slams shut on Friday.

Aaron Ramsdale transfer latest
There have been yet more twists and turns in the saga surrounding the future of Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale this summer.
The England international looks set to leave London Colney in the final few days of the transfer window, though a deal elsewhere hasn’t been agreed yet.
Ramsdale has slipped to second-choice option with the Gunners since the arrival of David Raya, reducing the minutes he receives.
That could lead to the move away, with several Premier League teams showing interest in landing the shot-stopper.

One of those had been Wolves, though The Athletic reports that the Midlands outfit are close to agreeing a £10million deal with Crystal Palace for Sam Johnstone.
With that deal progressing, it seemingly rules them out of making a last-minute move, though Southampton could be in contention.
According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, the Saints have seen a deal for Justin Bijlow collapse, which may lead them back to signing Ramsdale.
Arsenal will only accept a loan exit for Ramsdale if there is an obligation to sign him permanently in the deal.

Jakub Kiwior transfer decision
Plenty of speculation has surrounding the future of Arsenal defender Jakub Kiwior this summer as uncertainty surrounds his place in the team.
The Poland international, who played at both left-back and centre-back last season, faces more competition for a place in the team this season.
With new names and a few returns from injury, Kiwior has been rumoured with a potential move away from the Gunners.
However, it appears as though he is set to stay, with Arsenal sending a clear message before transfer deadline day.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the North London side have informed the player’s camp that he won’t be allowed to leave.
It remains to be seen whether that stance could change in the final hours of the window, but it appears as though the star is ready for the campaign ahead.
