Diogo Jota scored twice to force Mikel Arteta into Arsenal apology
Arsenal had their struggles during the early moments of Mikel Arteta’s reign as the Spaniard looked to revitalise the club following Unai Emery’s spell.
Liverpool in 2021 were the defending Premier League champions and alongside Manchester City, were among the best teams around in Europe.
During the clash in April 2021, Arsenal were missing the likes of Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka with injury and Jota starred in a convincing 3-0 win for Liverpool.
After the game, Arteta spoke to Sky Sports to apologise to the home supporters for not being at the races and allowing Jurgen Klopp’s side to utterly dominate.
Arteta stated: “We completely deserved to lose the game. They were better in every department and deserved to win the game with the margin they had, or even more. I accept responsibility for the way we played today.
“Liverpool completely deserved to win the game, probably by a bigger margin. We were extremely poor. We apologise.”
Diogo Jota’s record v Arsenal
Jota praised William Saliba for being one of the toughest opponents he faced but in truth, the 28-year-old got the better of the Gunners during his illustrious career.
The forward had a timely knack of scoring important goals against Arsenal and won points for both Liverpool and Wolves.
