Viktor Gyokeres is facing a late fitness test ahead of facing Chelsea, and Arsenal’s fans think there is a clear reason why he must start if fit.

Gyokeres has been sidelined with a muscle injury since the start of the month, and now the striker is finally set to return for the Gunners.

The Swede’s injury came at just the wrong moment as he looked to finally be building a head of steam following his move to North London.

However, away at Chelsea, he has the chance to make a dramatic impact on Arsenal’s title bid, and the Gunners’ supporters think the reason why he must feature is clear.

Arsenal fans are desperate for Viktor Gyokeres to play vs Chelsea

Arsenal fans are eager for Viktor Gyokeres to be brought straight back into the team against Chelsea, as his presence leading the line would free up room for the Gunners’ other attackers.

According to HandOfArsenal, the striker has travelled with the squad to the hotel ahead of the London derby and is set to undergo a late fitness test.

In his last outing, away at Burnley, Gyokeres produced one of his best performances for Arsenal, with his all-round game making him a nightmare for the Clarets’ defence.

The Gunners’ faithful now believe he can do the same against Chelsea and have called for Mikel Arteta to bring him straight back into the team.

One fan said: “Yes. We need to stretch their defence. Create space for Eze and Rice to crash the box. Plus, free up Saka to deal with Cucurella.”

Who should start as Arsenal’s striker when everyone is fit?

Arsenal have Viktor Gyokeres, Kai Havertz, Gabriel Jesus and Mikel Merino capable of playing up front. Who do you think should start when everyone is fit? Click on ‘comment’ below and let us know!

“Saka is struggling because defenders are always on him. Just imagine Odegaard, Saka, and Gyokeres playing, you’ll see the magic,” said one supporter.

Meanwhile, a third added: “Yes! We need him to drag the other players to himself so Saka and Madueke can have a lot of space to destroy Chelsea.”

There were further calls for him to be given the nod to start: “Yes, we need to see his pressing from the front. Chalobah will definitely struggle against him.”

“Having Gyokeres, Jesus, Havertz and Merino as your strikers is genuinely insane. Best striker depth in the world and it’s not close,” finally added another.

Right now, Mikel Merino seems to be the most likely candidate to start in the number nine role at Stamford Bridge, but perhaps Arteta could bring a surprise.

Gabriel Jesus could also make his return vs Chelsea

Gabriel Jesus is the other Arsenal striker who could make his return against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Brazilian has also made the trip to West London with the squad and is due to be assessed in the morning ahead of the match.

What Gabriel Jesus has said about staying at Arsenal

“For now, I have a contract with Arsenal until 2027, and my desire is to stay. If it ends up that, by both parties, it’s not extended, at least I’ll stay until 2027.”

Arsenal have made plans to sell Jesus in 2026; however, the striker seems intent on seeing out his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

Jesus says he wants to stay at Arsenal until 2027, so it will be fascinating to see what form he is in upon his return to action.
