Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly share remarkably similar first England goals – it’s an incredible stat

Arsenal starlets Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly have enjoyed an excellent international break.

Nwaneri was called up to the England U21s for the first time, while Thomas Tuchel brought Lewis-Skelly into the senior set-up.

As well as featuring for the first time for the respective squads, both players also scored on their full debuts.

And there was a remarkable similarity to their goals that is worth pointing out.

Incredibly, Nwaneri’s and Lewis-Skelly’s goals for England were assisted by Jobe and Jude Bellingham, respectively.

On Friday night against Albania, Jude played an excellent pass through the lines to Lewis-Skelly as the 18-year-old came off the left flank, allowing him to slot the ball through the goalkeeper’s legs for his first goal just 20 minutes into the game.

And on Monday night, Sunderland’s Jobe Bellingham fed Nwaneri for a trademark left-footed finish from outside the box, Nwaneri scoring England U21’s second goal in their 4-2 win against Portugal.

With strikes like that, it surely won’t be too long before the 18-year-old joins club teammate Lewis-Skelly in the senior squad.

Indeed, Arsenal fans were full of praise for Nwaneri on social media, even questioning if he is currently better than Phil Foden.

Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri set records alongside Jude Bellingham

All four players are incredible talents and have set some records that are likely to stand the test of time by virtue of their youth.

At 15 years and 181 days, Nwaneri became Arsenal’s youngest-ever player, and the youngest to ever feature in a Premier League game, when he came on as a late substitute in a 3-0 win against Brentford in September 2022.

A Hale End academy graduate, the 18-year-old is also Arsenal’s second youngest Premier League goal scorer of all-time behind Cesc Fabregas after netting in a 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest in November 2024.

At 18 years and 176 days, Lewis-Skelly’s goal against Albania meant he also became the youngest player in history to score on his senior England debut.

Such records are on par with those set by the Bellingham brothers.

Jude, for example, is the youngest Englishman to start a game in the Champions League, the youngest England player to feature at a major tournament, and the youngest player to score for England at a World Cup.

He is also the youngest player to feature for Birmingham City’s first team, making his debut for the Blues at the age of 16 years and 38 days.

Jobe Bellingham follows closely behind on this record, featuring for Birmingham at the age of 16 years and 107 days.

Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly will nonetheless be hoping to get the better of the older Bellingham brother shortly after the international break when Arsenal play Real Madrid in the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
