Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly are enjoying fruitful breakout seasons in the Arsenal first team.

The Hale End graduates have successfully established themselves as mainstays in Arteta’s squad, with both starting a number of crucial fixtures in recent months.

Lewis-Skelly has fought off competition from Riccardo Calafiori to become the Spaniard’s default starting left-back in most games.

Meanwhile, Ethan Nwaneri has deputised for Bukayo Saka excellently, filling in for the team’s injured talisman in impressive fashion.

Such form has inevitably sparked talk of international call-ups, with the plan for the pair of youngsters being integrated into the England senior set-up being revealed on Thursday afternoon.

Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly likely to earn England under-21 call-ups for March

Arsenal face Manchester United on Sunday before they host PSV and Chelsea next week, prior to the March international break commencing.

For England, it’s a significant break, with Thomas Tuchel set to hold his first camp as the Three Lions’ new boss.

Both Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly are expected to be in contention to make the German’s first squad, although the Daily Mail have revealed that both players are more likely to feature for the under-21s this month.

While the prospect of Nwaneri going straight into Tuchel’s senior squad isn’t out of the question, the FA feel he’d benefit from at least one call-up for the under-21s.

Nwaneri has made nine appearances for the under-19s, but it yet to feature for the age bracket above that.

He’s expected to be called up by Lee Carsely to continue playing youth international football for the time being, although if England suffer more attacking injuries prior to next Friday’s senior squad announcement, there’s a chance Tuchel will pick the Arsenal starlet.

Meanwhile, reports had previously emerged suggesting that Lewis-Skelly is likely to be called up by Tuchel, although the Daily Mail indicate that he’s more likely to join his Arsenal counterpart in the under-21s squad.

Tuchel has already held conversations with many players ahead of his first squad selection, and most will be aware of where they stand in the former Chelsea manager’s thinking.

England should call up Myles Lewis-Skelly

England have a plethora of attacking talent available to them, and thus it’s reasonable to suggest that Nwaneri may not be ready for senior level.

The likes of Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Morgan Gibbs-White, Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer are all likely ahead of him in the pecking order at the moment.

However, Lewis-Skelly should firmly be in the picture to feature against Albania and Latvia later this month.

Luke Shaw has long been the Three Lions’ starting left-back, but he’s perennially injured, while Kieran Trippier has retired from international football.

Ben Chilwell is no longer part of the pitcture and Lewis Hall has just sustained a serious injury which means he won’t be fit for the international break.

Thus, there ought to be a place in Tuchel’s imminent squad for Lewis-Skelly, with the Arsenal man surely one of the favourites to start at left-back for the nation.
