Gabriel Martinelli was dispossessed more times against Wolves than any player had been in the 2025/26 Premier League season up to that point.

Arsenal’s players struggled against Wolves, seeing the Gunners drop points once again in the Premier League in 2026.

Out of nowhere, the title race has been blown open due to Arsenal’s lack of care, with several players proving they’re far from the level required to stand strong in a title race.

One player who stood out for the wrong reasons at Molineux was Gabriel Martinelli, whose performance against Wolves was unacceptable in every department.

Gabriel Martinelli sets Premier League season high for the number of times he was dispossessed against Wolves

Quite frankly, Martinelli embarrassed himself by taunting Wolves fans, only for Arsenal to concede moments later.

It wasn’t only by celebrating prematurely that the Brazilian experienced a level of humiliation, as his below-par performance saw him set a season-high in the Premier League.

By being dispossessed seven times against Wolves, Martinelli became the first player in the league this season to have possession stolen from him that many times in a single game, as per WhoScored.

It was a real low point for the winger, who did the opposite of impressing Arteta in a rare start in the Premier League.

Martinelli’s time at Arsenal is surely coming to an end

Martinelli’s disasterclass against Wolves was on only his eighth start of the season in the league.

It’s contrasting to how often Arteta started the Brazil international in previous seasons, recording 25 starts last term, 24 in the 2023/24 campaign and a statement 34 in the 2022/23 Premier League calendar.

What’s become apparent is that the 2022/23 edition of Martinelli is long gone, and is not coming back, as with just eight starts and one goal in the Premier League this season, the end is surely in sight for the winger.

Arsenal need to cut the 24-year-old loose while his market value still reads at a figure that could hand the Gunners an overwhelming profit, because he’s not getting any better.

In fact, Martinelli is declining at a rate that is quite staggering in the Premier League, giving Andrea Berta a clear signal of what to do in the summer transfer market.
