Gary Lineker has started to notice something different about Arsenal after watching the Gunners beat West Ham.

The Premier League table changes rapidly, as just over a week after being five points behind Liverpool, Arsenal head into the international break sitting top.

Mikel Arteta’s side beat West Ham 2-0, and shortly after, Liverpool lost 2-1 to Chelsea, making the three points even more integral.

Though some Arsenal players thrived against the Hammers, it wasn’t all rosy at the Emirates, as Martin Odegaard suffered an injury, while others didn’t perform as hoped.

Arteta showed full support for Viktor Gyokeres after the contest, as the Arsenal striker extended his run without a goal to six matches.

Gary Lineker makes ‘promising’ Viktor Gyokeres prediction

Gyokeres requires patience, as the Swede is still adapting to the rise in standard of the Premier League

That being said, some fans were disappointed at the chances the forward missed against West Ham, but Gary Lineker saw far more than just the failure to score.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker stated that he’s already noticed how Gyokeres gives Arsenal ‘something different’.

“I also think that, even though he’s not banged a load of goals in yet, but he’s got his fair share, Gyokeres gives them something different,” he said.

“He gives them a threat behind which creates more space for the midfield and even the wide players. He’s aggressive with his running, and he likes to spin, and he attacks the space in the box.”

Some have noticed how Gyokeres stands out in the Arsenal squad due to how different he is from other forwards, but Lineker thinks the blend in attack will only positively impact the summer signing.

“The goals will come for him because with the service that he will inevitably get, especially now that Saka’s back in the mix and looks like his old self, I think it’s quite promising for Arsenal.”

Gyokeres has three goals from his opening seven Premier League appearances, which isn’t the standard the Swede is accustomed to, having scored 54 goals in 52 appearances last term.

Scoring is the least of Gyokeres’ problems

Becoming Arsenal’s long-awaited striker in the summer naturally added a lot of pressure for Gyokeres to arrive and hit the ground running.

Looking at his goal output alone, there’s work to be done, but what is most important is already happening, as Lineker noticed.

At Old Trafford, Gyokeres was incredibly isolated, as it was clear that his teammates were unsure how to utilise him best.

Now, the chances are growing week by week; the Arsenal squad know how to get the forward into the game. The only thing that’s missing is converting those chances.

From the outside, missing chances is the be-all and end-all, but really, growth is being seen at a rapid pace as Arsenal are altering their approach to suit the summer arrival.

Lineker is right, things are promising for Arsenal and Gyokeres, with plenty of games to play to boost the tally.
