Arsenal are going to need goals from around the pitch in the coming weeks as they desperately struggle for numbers in attacking areas.

Mikel Arteta has been left embarrassed at his Kai Havertz comments after the Arsenal manager claimed the German could cope with the high workload being placed upon him.

Havertz will miss the season with a hamstring tear and he now joins Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka in missing vital Premier League games for the Gunners.

Liverpool may have dropped points in the Merseyside Derby to give Mikel Arteta some hope but Ian Wright’s reaction to news of the Havertz injury has summed up the feeling of every Arsenal fan at the moment.

Ian Wright in disbelief at news of Kai Havertz surgery

Wright was preparing for the latest episode of The Overlap when news filtered through about the German striker facing surgery on his hamstring.

The former Gunners striker is an avid Arsenal fan and his reaction mirrored the disbelief and agony of many Gooners upon hearing the news.

Wright stated: “The rest of the season Kai. I didn’t realise it was that bad. Torn hamstring, Kai torn hamstring.”

The former record Arsenal goal scorer then left the room in order to compose himself after hearing the devastating news – something that many supporters would resonate with at this present moment.

Arsenal support shown by Everton in Merseyside Derby

Arteta’s old mentor David Moyes was able to give Arsenal a slight boost in their quest for the Premier League title by holding Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in a thrilling Merseyside Derby.

Everton also aimed a subtle dig at Liverpool and a show of support for the Gunners before the game by having a picture of ex-Evertonian player Arteta on the front of their matchday programme.

Arsenal fans reacted to Arne Slot’s red card by comparing the behaviour and treatment of their own manager in relation to the Dutchman’s antics at the end of the Derby at Goodison Park.

Arsenal know they can move to within four points of Liverpool with a win over Leicester and with the Reds having some tricky fixtures ahead of them, the heat could be turned up in the title race.
