Arsenal have suffered a huge blow ahead of their clash against Real Madrid in the Champions League.
The Gunners beat Fulham in the Premier League on Tuesday night thanks to goals from Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka at the Emirates.
The Englishman’s return was a huge boost for Arsenal, but just as luck would have it, Gabriel Magalhaes had to go off injured.
Arsenal fans have been worried about Gabriel since, and Ian Wright’s prediction on when he thinks the centre-half will return to action is all the more concerning.
Arsenal legend Ian Wright expresses fears over Gabriel Magalhaes’ injury
Arsenal have had such rotten luck this season.
Multiple refereeing decisions going against them in the first half of the campaign was bad enough, but that hasn’t been the only factor that has hurt them.
Arsenal have had so many injuries this season, and just when it feels like they have turned a corner, someone else goes down hurt.
Gabriel was forced off the pitch during the game against Fulham on Tuesday night.
The Brazil international was chasing Adama Traore back, and he felt something in his hamstring and immediately went down.
Arteta admitted after the game that he was concerned, and Wright’s comments now will increase the worries among Arsenal fans.
The Gunners legend said on Premier League Productions: “Without Gabi Magalhaes in that game, you’re looking at Kiwior even today [against Fulham], there’s a couple of positional moves that you just cannot afford to do when you play against Real Madrid.
“They are looking for any chink in the armour to exploit, so you need people who are absolutely bang on it, to be able to keep Real Madrid to no goals at home.
“If Gabi Magalhaes was there I would feel more confident about that.”

Arsenal stats with and without Gabriel Magalhaes
Arsenal signed Gabriel in the summer of 2020, and he has been a regular since.
The former Lille man is as solid as a rock, is a real leader at the back, and he is one of the biggest reasons why William Saliba has been developing so well.
That makes Gabriel so important for Arsenal, and his numbers show that.
| With Gabriel | Arsenal | Without Gabriel |
| 159 | Games | 22 |
| 1 | Goals conceded per game | 1.2 |
| 54 | Win ratio | 41 |
| 2.1 | Points per game | 1.5 |
Arsenal win less than half the games they play when Gabriel isn’t starting for them. They concede more goals too, which is not surprising.
Ahead of the clash against Real Madrid, Gabriel’s injury is a humongous blow for Arsenal, but Mikel Arteta now needs to find a way to get the job done.
It will be interesting to see who he will deploy in the Brazilian’s position.
