Jamie Carragher watched Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid on matchday three of the Champions League.
The Gunners ran riot when Diego Simeone’s team returned to the Emirates for the first time since 2018.
Viktor Gyokeres earned high praise for his performance against Atletico, scoring a brace and being joined on the scoresheet by Gabriel Magalhaes and Gabriel Martinelli.
Watching on from the CBS Sports studio was Jamie Carragher, who has had some strong opinions about Arsenal this season, and after the game, the pundit shared another.

Jamie Carragher says Arsenal can win the Champions League
Carragher still has some reservations about Arsenal, but they seem to be weakening week by week.
Just days after Carragher said that Arsenal have an advantage in the Premier League title race, the pundit shared his opinion that the Gunners could go all the way in the Champions League.
“I do look at this team right now, I’ve always felt, going back to my own history in the competition, we were not a great team attacking-wise, but we were strong defensively,” Carragher said on CBS Sports after the win.
“I just look at how strong they [Arsenal] are defensively. That means you always have a chance, especially when we get to the knockout stage.
“Obviously, two legs home and away, and I think if you’re strong defensively, you’ve always got a chance, and I see them as one of the sort of four or five teams who can win this competition.”
The pundit’s assessment will be music to Mikel Arteta’s ears, particularly as the idea of Arsenal winning the Champions League has been laughed at already this season.

Arsenal’s statistics against Atletico Madrid – ruthless from the Gunners
Truthfully, the Arsenal manager won’t pay attention to what pundits think about his team’s chances of lifting silverware this season.
Seeing how Arsenal played against Atletico Madrid, it would be more surprising for any pundit to rule the Gunners out of winning the Champions League this term.
| Arsenal | Statistic | Atletico Madrid |
| 2.19 | xG | 0.67 |
| 6 | Big chances | 1 |
| 19 | Total shots | 11 |

Despite a shaky moment from David Raya, Arsenal were in control for the entirety of the contest, giving goalkeeper Jan Oblak a lot of work to do.
Arsenal’s attacking approach has been questioned this season, but against Atletico, the hosts fired 19 shots on goal, showing a relentless edge in the final third.
The Emirates were treated to a blockbuster on matchday three, and it was Arsenal who earned the spotlight.
