Wayne Rooney said that Viktor Gyokeres has been one of the top three players in the Premier League this season, and Joe Hart has responded.
Even Gyokeres might’ve been shocked by Rooney’s claim, as the striker is behind where he’d want his goal tally to be in the Premier League.
The Swede has four goals in his opening ten league appearances for Arsenal, and while he offers far more than just a goalscoring presence, it’s difficult to place the 27-year-old ahead of Erling Haaland.
Rooney thinks Gyokeres has been one of the best, nominating the Arsenal striker as the best in his position so far this season, despite being ten goals behind Haaland.
Joe Hart disagrees with Wayne Rooney’s claim about Viktor Gyokeres
Gyokeres is currently injured, so he’s unlikely to be able to repay Rooney’s faith by responding with a goal against Tottenham on Sunday.
The Manchester United legend’s words about the Arsenal star haven’t gone unnoticed, with Joe Hart being the latest to react to the Englishman’s ratings.
When asked about Rooney’s opinion on Sky Sports, Hart responded by ruling that Haaland can’t be excluded from the list.
“What do I make of it? Well, he’s Wayne Rooney, he’s one of the best players to ever play the game, so he knows what he’s talking about,” Hart began.
“I’m never going to go against anything he says. Opinions, everyone’s got them, like I have, you’ve got to put Erling Haaland in there, in my opinion.”
Haaland is going to be a problem for Arsenal in the title race due to his unplayable form already this season, scoring a total of 19 goals in all competitions for Manchester City.
Though Gyokeres has added a lot to the Arsenal squad since his transfer, it’s near-impossible to disagree with Hart on this one.
Joe Hart thinks Declan Rice has been one of the best
Rooney might disagree with Hart, but nobody would have a complaint with the Man City icon’s selected best three.
As well as naming Haaland, the goalkeeper nominated Declan Rice and Antoine Semenyo, who has been linked to Arsenal.

“I think Declan Rice at Arsenal has been so important,” Hart said, adding, “Who else has been brilliant? I think Semenyo has lit it up.”
Though Gyokeres’ form this season can be debated, Rice’s can’t, being one of the best players in the world.
Rooney’s opinion has generated a lot of discussion, talk that, while being fun, will be muted by Arsenal, whose eyes are firmly on winning the Premier League.
