Arsenal’s summer transfer business is underway.

Martin Zubimendi’s switch to Arsenal was confirmed by journalist Fabrizio Romano in a deal worth £51m for the Spanish midfielder.

Zubimendi is expected to replace Jorginho in the Arsenal squad with the Italian set to move to Flamengo on a free transfer this summer.

Martin Zubimendi could steal Ben White’s Arsenal shirt number

Zubimendi’s favourite shirt number was revealed in a recent interview with Spanish publication Marca and it could mean that Ben White will have a change from his number four.

White’s future at Arsenal is uncertain after struggling for regular game time since returning from injury and having his squad number taken away could further make up White’s mind that his exit is near.

Arsenal fans will be hoping that isn’t the case and that White can compete with Jurrien Timber and provide another excellent defensive option for Mikel Arteta.

However, with the Gunners splashing £51m on Zubimendi, they will want to help him settle at the Emirates Stadium and giving him the number four shirt could be a start to that.

Squad numbers are iconic to football fans but players also see them as a big deal whether that is for status or for superstition.

Arsenal’s current squad numbers indicate there are four main options for Zubimendi to take upon arrival in North London, providing that the club do not have a change around in the close season.

Emile Smith-Rowe’s departure means the number ten shirt is available however, the club may be saving that for a new striker or creative force.

With Zubimendi’s affection for number four, the square number of ’16’ may be appealing to the Spaniard or ’24’ as it contains his favourite number.

Mohamed Elneny was the last player to wear the number ’25’ and being a similar type of player to Zubimendi, that squad number may also be an option.
