Tim Sherwood admits he doesn’t see Arsenal doing one thing this season after Sunderland draw

Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has made a bold prediction about the remainder of Arsenal’s season after matchday 11.

Arsenal’s winning streak is over, as Sunderland dealt the Gunners a blow at the Stadium of Light on Saturday evening.

Mikel Arteta’s side head into the international break sitting four points ahead of Manchester City, who narrowed the gap after Arsenal’s draw.

Pressure rose in the Premier League title race after Man City beat Liverpool 3-0 in a statement victory, with Pep Guardiola aiming to hunt Arteta down once again.

Tim Sherwood doesn’t think Arsenal will lose more than five Premier League games this season

Jamie Carragher thinks Arsenal might be having flashbacks of previous title races after Man City took a huge step forward in the title race by beating Liverpool so efficiently.

In the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons, Man City beat the Gunners to the summit to lift the title in May, but will it happen again?

Fans will certainly hope not, but if there’s one positive from week 11’s action, it’s that it looks as though it’s a two-horse race for the title now.

Some think Liverpool are out of the title race already, which by week 11 seems premature, but Tim Sherwood put things into perspective.

Speaking on Sky Sports News, Sherwood assessed what the defeat now means for Arne Slot’s side.

“First and foremost, do we think Arsenal can lose three games between now and the end of the season? Of course they can. Can Liverpool go unbeaten between now and the end of the season? No.”

Sherwood was referring to the eight-point gap between leaders Arsenal and Liverpool, leading the pundit to predict that the Gunners won’t lose many more games this term.

“So they’re going to have to lose more games, Arsenal. I don’t see them doing that,” Sherwood said.

“I don’t see Arsenal losing five or six games between now and the end of the season in the Premier League.”

Arsenal have only lost once this campaign in the Premier League, the fewest number of defeats for any side in the table, painting the picture of the difficulty Liverpool face getting back into the race.

The fewest number of defeats Mikel Arteta has coached Arsenal to in a single Premier League season

The subject of the Gunners not losing many games has been a talking point in recent weeks, as Sherwood’s comment came after Guardiola said Arsenal look unbeatable.

Arteta won’t be breaking a record for the fewest number of defeats at Arsenal; that title forever belongs to Arsene Wenger, but he’s getting closer to the Frenchman.

Last season marked the fewest number of losses that Arsenal have suffered under Arteta in a single Premier League season, which was four.

The number has been decreasing year on year, which brings us back to Sherwood’s point: are Arsenal realistically going to lose more than five times before the season ends?

It looks unlikely, which is bad news for Liverpool, with the ball seemingly in Man City’s court to attempt to stop the Gunners.
