While Arsenal are in the midst of a miserable period of the season, Mikel Arteta and his staff are already making plans for the summer to ensure the next campaign is more successful.

The Gunners suffered a dismal defeat on the weekend, as West Ham won 1-0 at the Emirates to condemn Arteta’s side to their third defeat in the Premier League this term.

This result, combined with Liverpool’s win over Manchester City, sees the Merseysiders extend their lead at the top of the table to eleven points.

With the title all but gone, attention has turned to how Arsenal can bolster their squad in the transfer window during the off-season, with a list of forwards being identified.

Benjamin Sesko is one of Arsenal’s primary targets, with the RB Leipzig man understood to be likely to complete a switch to North London.

German media praise Benjamin Sesko’s performance against Heidenheim

Leipzig and Sesko reportedly have a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that says that if any potential suitors muster up a bid in the region of £60 million this summer, then the German club will sanction his departure.

Arsenal are expected to pursue the Slovenian, and thus the Gunners’ faithful will be keeping a sharp eye on his progress for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Leipzig were held at home against Heidenheim on Sunday.

Sesko dispatched a penalty to equalise for the Red Bull side in the second half, whilst he also created Lois Openda’s goal in the first 45 minutes.

Laying the ball off nicely for the Belgian forward to hit a first-time effort beyond the Heidenheim goalkeeper, the assist demonstrated Sesko’s ability to act as a focal point.

The former RB Salzburg man was praised by German media for his display against the Bundesliga minnows.

Kicker awarded Sesko with the player of the match, writing: “He needed time to get going, but then he delivered: Benjamin Sesko, with his assist and his goal, played a key role in RB getting back into the game after the 0-2 deficit.”

The goal was his tenth in the league this season, and his 16th in all competitions, in what is proving to be a prolific campaign for the youngster.

Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that Sesko is continuing to develop impressively in Germany, with this outing one of his best in recent months.

Taking five shots and creating three chances, the Slovenia international was a constant threat to Heidenheim’s back-line.

How would Benjamin Sesko fit in at Arsenal?

Gabriel Jesus won’t be available until midway through next season after sustaining an ACL injury in December, meaning Sesko would likely replace the Brazilian in Arteta’s ensemble.

The starlet is still raw and needs maturing in several aspects of his game, so he may not be expected to usurp Kai Havertz as the first choice striker straight away.

It’s more likely that he’d be sporadically used at the beginning before slowly being integrated and eventually displacing Havertz.

Sesko strikes the ball much more cleanly than the German but doesn’t generally produce the volume of shots or accumulate the expected goals that the former Chelsea man does.

He’ll need time to settle, but once he does he may even be deployed in a front two with Havertz at times, with the pair potentially dovetailing nicely.
