Arsenal have been busy in the market, but it may not have been the summer that many would’ve expected it to be.
With the arrival of Andrea Berta, there has been a clear switch in transfer approach so far, with plenty of deals already concluded.
Many of Arsenal’s biggest problems have seemingly been solved, as a striker is through the door, along with a backup goalkeeper, a reworked midfielder and some further attacking additions.
It may be a different idea from what many thought should happen, but the latest issues for Mikel Arteta prove that the approach so far this summer has been the right one.

Arsenal injuries prove Andrea Berta’s transfer approach was the right one
Some fans thought that a big spend would be on the way this summer, but perhaps not in the way that it happened.
There was a belief that Arsenal should’ve put all their money towards Alexander Isak and his price tag in the region of £150 million.
However, instead, Berta has looked beyond the obvious option to look at the wider picture.
What cost the Gunners last season wasn’t just the lack of a striker, but the overall problem surrounding depth and those who could cover for injuries.
The Italian director has solved that already, bringing in some top-quality additions throughout the squad to bolster those ranks.
| Player | Signed from |
|---|---|
| Kepa Arrizabalaga | Chelsea |
| Martin Zubimendi | Real Sociedad |
| Cristhian Mosquera | Valencia |
| Viktor Gyokeres | Sporting CP |
| Christian Norgaard | Brentford |
| Noni Madueke | Chelsea |
| Eberechi Eze | Crystal Palace |
Injuries to Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka early on, along with a host of other stars, have created some fear that Arsenal could be in for a similar issue this time around with their fitness and availability.
However, having those brilliant options in depth who have joined this summer eases the blow a little compared to last season.
Mikel Arteta even suggested his preference for the current transfer strategy as he said after Arsenal’s win over Leeds: “Well, that’s all we need [so many good players in already].
“I think the other way is not realistic. To survive at the levels that we want for ten months. Because none of the other top teams in the league do it. So why are we going to be different?
“They still have even bigger squads than we have. So that’s the minimum that we can have to compete and be able to do what we want.”
With those injury issues persisting, but with a deeper squad, Arsenal will still fancy their chances to impress for the rest of the season.

Arsenal’s injury worries after just two Premier League games
Despite the season only just starting, Arsenal already have six main injury concerns to deal with and assess.
Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury has seen him out since January, but he is stepping up his recovery towards playing again this year.
Beyond them, Ben White and Christian Norgaard are doubts, with the pair suffering small issues that should see them involved again soon.
Kai Havertz has a knee injury, though the extent of it is unclear at this moment in time, and it remains to be seen whether he will feature again soon.
Then there are the two latest doubts, as Odegaard and Saka both picked up injury issues against Leeds over the weekend.
With the pair joining the long list of those being assessed, it shows just how strong the squad is now that the team are coping early on.
