Forget Gyokeres and Sesko, Arsenal are looking in the wrong place as £65m Premier League-proven star is available

Arsenal have three strikers under consideration amid the summer transfer window, but there’s another figure Andrea Berta must eye.

There’s growing confidence in Germany that Benjamin Sesko will join Arsenal this summer; however, the Slovenian isn’t the only one on Berta’s radar.

It’s understood that Berta has been discussing Viktor Gyokeres with Sporting CP, with the Sweden international also wanted by Manchester United.

The bottom line is that Mikel Arteta needs a number nine to add to his Arsenal squad ahead of the 2025/26 campaign, and most importantly, one who can hit the ground running in the Premier League

Arsenal must look at Jhon Duran

That appears to be why Ollie Watkins is still being considered by Arsenal, after failing to make the move to North London during the January transfer window.

Aston Villa were offended by Arsenal’s bid for Watkins in the winter, and after Unai Emery offloaded Jhon Duran, it became clear that the chance to sign the Englishman had passed.

What is interesting to note is that Watkins wasn’t the only Villa striker that the Gunners paid attention to in January, as Duran was on Arsenal’s radar as his future at Villa Park grew uncertain.

The Colombian completed a £65m move to Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr and, ironically, just six months after his transfer, Arsenal might have their best chance to sign the clinical 21-year-old.

It was reported by the Daily Mail that Duran could leave on an initial loan this summer amid concerns about his mental well-being, giving those at the Emirates something to consider.

While talk of Arsenal signing a striker is dominated by Sesko and Gyokeres, it could be said that Berta is looking in the wrong place, given the signal of a green light being presented by Duran in Saudi Arabia.

An array of Premier League and European clubs have already been linked to the forward, who is surely worth considering in N5.

Duran’s record in the Premier League

Since moving to Al-Nassr, Duran has recorded just 18 appearances, in which he’s scored 12 goals.

The Colombia international’s clinical streak hasn’t been affected as a result of trading the Premier League for the Saudi Pro League, as his numbers in England were just as telling of his ability to score.

In the Premier League, Duran boasted a higher conversion rate than Erling Haaland in both the 2024/25 and 2023/24 campaigns, acting as Emery’s assassin from the bench.

There’s no denying the goalscoring ability that Duran possesses, and at only 21 years old, there’s a lot of room for the striker to develop even further.

With a track record of being one of the most clinical number nines in the Premier League, Duran is surely someone Berta and Arteta will be considering.
