One call Arsenal have to make on Benjamin Sesko, or they will pay for it in the future

Arsenal are prepared to break records in the transfer market this summer.

Arsenal have a reported budget of £200m that would surpass their spending in any previous transfer window in the club’s history.

Mikel Arteta would be under pressure to deliver success if Andrea Berta decides to splash the cash on a number of targets.

Berta is in contact with Benjamin Sesko and the RB Leipzig striker is keen on coming to the Emirates Stadium with the two clubs in negotiations over a fee. However, the Gunners cannot afford to make one big mistake on the Slovenian forward.

Arsenal cannot overpay for Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal know the importance of this summer’s transfer window and whilst a striker is the club’s main priority, there are other positions that need strengthening in the squad.

A major failure from last summer’s window was the recruitment of positions that already had strength in depth and the forward line was neglected until Raheem Sterling’s last minute switch.

Sesko has a release clause of £67m and whilst the Gunners will want to land their top target, they cannot leave themselves short in other areas by overpaying for the striker.

Nico Williams and Rodrygo are also going to require substantial fees and Arsenal have already spent £55m on Martin Zubimendi.

Thomas Partey’s contract talks are ongoing but should he decide to leave North London, another central midfielder would be required. All of a sudden, that £200m transfer budget is ebbing away and fast.

How Benjamin Sesko compares with Arsenal’s record signings

Should Berta pay Sesko’s £67m fee, he would become one of the club’s most expensive signings and with that, comes a lot of pressure to deliver.

Having scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, Sesko does improve on the goal scoring output of the likes of Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, however, he is yet to experience Premier League football.

Arsenal signingFee
Declan Rice£105m
Nicolas Pepe£72m
Benjamin Sesko (pending)£67m
Kai Havertz£65m
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang£60m

Sesko has not featured for Slovenia in the recent international matches as per RB Leipzig’s wish and is a strong indication that a deal is edging closer.

Arsenal need to look at the bigger picture this summer and learn lessons from last summer, signing a top target is important but it cannot be to the detriment of moulding a competitive squad.
