Williams, Mbeumo, Semenyo – Ranking Arsenal’s chances of signing five winger transfer targets this summer

While signing a striker will be Arsenal’s transfer priority this summer, Mikel Arteta is also expected to be in the market for a new winger.

The Gunners are in need of wide reinforcements as much as they are a striker, with their current cohort arguably not at the level required to win major honours.

Raheem Sterling will return to Chelsea when his loan ends, while Leandro Trossard could be on the chopping block as he enters the latter stages of his career.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Martinelli has struggled at times this season, and thus Arsenal need a new addition to compliment Bukayo Saka on the opposite flank.

A plethora of wide forwards have been linked with a potential move to the Emirates Stadium, and here’s a look at the likelihood of five of them completing the switch.

Arsenal eye Nico Williams transfer opportunity

Arsenal have consistently been linked with Nico Williams over the last two transfer windows, but are yet to trigger his reported £50 million release clause.

The Spaniard wasn’t willing to swap the Basque country for North London last summer, but reports have emerged recently indicating that Williams is open to a Premier League move.

The Gunners could use this new-found desire to leave his boyhood club to their advantage, although the wide man’s performance levels have dropped off this season.

The 22-year-old has scored just one goal and registered three assists in La Liga this term, form which could prompt Arteta to look elsewhere if it continues.

Regardless, the release clause means Williams remains Arsenal’s most plausible winger acquisition.

Arsenal transfer chances: Very possible.

Bryan Mbeumo to Arsenal transfer chance

Bryan Mbeumo is a target for Arsenal, having impressed with some exceptional displays for Brentford this campaign.

The Cameroonian has scored 14 goals and provided three assists in 24 Premier League appearances for the Bees this season, sparking widespread interest from a number of clubs.

This extensive list of potential suitors, combined with the extortionate fee the West Londoners are likely to demand for their talisman, means it’ll be difficult for the Gunners to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.

Also, with Saka returning from injury and Ethan Nwaneri emerging as a genuine deputy for the starboy, Arsenal are more in need of a player who operates predominantly from the left, which Mbeumo doesn’t.

Arsenal transfer chances: Unlikely.

Antoine Semenyo to Arsenal transfer switch

Like Mbeumo, Antoine Semenyo has proven himself in the Premier League over the last year or so, and is ready for a step-up to a side competing for major honours.

Semenyo has been identified by Arsenal as a summer target, and Bournemouth may be willing to sanction his departure for a reasonable fee at the end of the season.

The Cherries are involved in a race for European spaces, so weren’t willing to sell the Ghanaian in January, but a significant offer could seduce them in five months time.

The 25-year-old has scored seven league goals this season, and can be deployed on either flank, making him an incredibly appealing option to Arsenal.

However, there’ll certainly be no shortage of suitors, likely driving the price up.

Arsenal transfer chances: Possible.

Mohammed Kudus release clause opportunity

Another Premier League proven winger who can play in multiple positions across the front three, Mohamed Kudus has been on Arsenal’s radar for some time.

Kudus has an £85 million release clause, meaning if the Gunners opt to pursue him, they have the option of skipping negotiations with West Ham to acquire him.

Despite only scoring three Premier League goals this term, the Ghanaian’s elusive dribbling would provide the North Londoners with an attribute currently lacking in their team.

Having said this, new Hammers boss Graham Potter will be desperate to keep hold of the 24-year-old, meaning any proposal short of the £85 million figure will likely be rejected.

Arsenal aren’t likely to spend in this region for a wide forward as they focus on a striker.

Arsenal transfer chances: Unlikely.

Ademola Lookman

Since leaving the Premier League in 2022, Ademola Lookman has developed into a star at Atalanta.

Scoring a hat-trick in last year’s Europa League final, the Nigerian has hit double figures for goals in three consecutive seasons and would undoubtedly be exhilarated at the prospect of plying his trade at the Emirates.

Lookman has been loosely linked with Arsenal, and thus this potential deal is based mostly on speculation.

However, with his contract in Bergamo expiring in the summer of 2026, the Gunners could look to pounce on what would be an enticing market opportunity, and secure one of the hottest wingers on the market for a reduced fee.
