Arsenal agree deal to sell Marquinhos to Cruzeiro
According to journalist Thiago Fernandes writing for GOAL, Arsenal have agreed a deal to sell winger Marquinhos to Brazilian side Cruzeiro following a loan spell.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed the deal with Marquinhos signing a contract to keep him in South America until 2028.
Marquinhos had ‘contractual issues’ that meant his permanent signing was delayed following a clause that meant Cruzeiro would be obligated to pay just over €3m if he had played 60% of games in the first half of the season.
The winger was subsequently left out of Cruzeiro’s squads but it now appears Berta has secured the departure of Marquinhos and he can look to further develop his career in Brazil.
Martin Keown compared Marquinhos to Serge Gnabry
Marquinhos struggled to make a significant impact at Arsenal, the language barrier was a hindrance to any progress made under Mikel Arteta.
However, as per The Metro, former Gunners defender Martin Keown was impressed with the Brazilian during the 2022 Europa League clash with FC Zurich where Marquinhos was on the score sheet.
Keown stated: “The first of many, hopefully. He’s got a huge future ahead of him. He looked a bit like a Gnabry type player. He’s short, stocky, explosive pace. He looked very classy.”
| Marquinhos Arsenal record | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| Marquinhos | 6 | 1 | 1 |
Despite a bright start, Keown’s comparison now looks a huge stretch but Arsenal will see the sale as another positive step at the beginning of the transfer window.
Another player off the books and it is expected that Kieran Tierney and Oleksandr Zinchenko will soon follow Marquinhos in exiting North London with their heads held high.
