Arsenal’s transfer window isn’t materialising in the way they might’ve hoped, and it now appears they’re about to miss out on a primary target.

The Gunners have been desperately pursuing a number of offensive players in an attempt to strengthen their attacking cohort.

Bukayo Saka is out until March at the earliest after undergoing hamstring surgery, while Gabriel Jesus suffered an ACL injury which will see him miss the remainder of the season.

This leaves Arsenal short in forward areas, and in need of reinforcements.

Several players have been seriously linked with a switch to N5, with one prominent name now set to remain at his current club for the time being.

Arsenal target Sverre Nypan to stay at Rosenborg

Without Martin Odegaard during the skipper’s injury lay-off earlier in the season, Arsenal lacked a creative spark in midfield.

This issue has been exacerbated by the Norwegian’s dip in form in recent weeks, and by the decision to sanction departures for Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe in the summer.

This was clearly something the North London club were looking to rectify in the transfer window this month.

Wonderkid Sverre Nypan was identified as a target for Arsenal, and the deal was understood to be relatively advanced with Rosenborg.

Nypan flew to England ahead of a potential move, with the Gunners desperate to secure a young alternative to Odegaard.

However, David Ornstein has now revealed that the deal won’t come to fruition this month, after Arsenal and other suitors failed to reach an agreement with Rosenborg.

Nypan will remain with the Norwegian giants to continue his development and consider his future.

While a summer move can’t be ruled out, this will be a huge blow for the Emirates hierarchy and Mikel Arteta, who is said to be a huge admirer of the starlet.

Arsenal should consider recalling Fabio Vieira

This creative void in the Arsenal squad lives on without the arrival of Nypan, and the club still ought to find a way to fix this.

Ethan Nwaneri is currently needed as an option in the front-line, meaning he can’t be relied upon to fill in for or to compliment Odegaard in midfield.

Thus, the Gunners should consider recalling Vieira from his loan spell at Porto.

Arsenal have the option to bring Vieira back to Islington this month, and his presence in the squad could be hugely beneficial, potentially allowing Odegaard to get some respite from time to time.

The Portuguese playmaker has scored twice and registered two assists in 23 appearances for the Primeira Liga side this campaign.
