Sources close to Arsenal Insider understand that Arsenal have shown interest in both Ronald Araujo and Theo Hernandez, but a deal for either is increasingly unlikely in the January transfer window.

It comes as the Gunners have been linked with a possible switch for the pair this month, with the chance to bolster their ranks.

Mikel Arteta is on the look out for some opportunities in the market, with the defensive duo potentially available.

Arsenal have been linked with Ronald Araujo as he seems likely to leave Barcelona, though they aren’t alone in that race.

Meanwhile, Theo Hernandez has been rumoured with a switch to Arsenal as he approaches the final 18 months of his contract at AC Milan.

Ronald Araujo to Arsenal transfer latest

Ronald Araujo is entering the final 18 months of his contract with Barcelona, leading to a potential exit from the club.

If the defender doesn’t get close to signing a new deal, that could open up a move away, with plenty of links appearing.

While Arsenal have been mentioned in the race, Arsenal Insider understands that no contact has yet been made for the Uruguayan international.

It appears as though Juventus are the closest in the race to sign the centre-back, while rivals Chelsea have also shown interest but are yet to make an approach.

It remains to be seen if that will change in the weeks ahead, though it seems a switch to the Emirates Stadium is unlikely at this stage.

Theo Hernandez to Arsenal transfer latest

AC Milan left-back Theo Hernandez is another star who is entering the final year-and-a-half of his contract at his club.

That has brought about rumours surrounding an exit, with Arsenal among the teams linked with the France international.

Amid those links, Arsenal Insider understands that the Gunners “really like” Hernandez and he is an option for consideration if he is available.

A move in January appears extremely unlikely though, while there are other selection considerations in his position.

The summer signing of Riccardo Calafiori and the recent emergence of Myles Lewis-Skelly has added depth at left-back.

Meanwhile, there is still an exit to be sorted out for Kieran Tierney, while Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior face uncertain futures at Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if an approach would be made, but it’s clear that a few factors stand in the way of any possible deal.
