The Athletic have revealed that Arsenal-linked Sparta Prague attacker Abdallah Sima is very close to joining Brighton and Hove Albion.
CalcioMercato revealed a few months ago that Arsenal are among other top clubs interested in signing the Senegal star. Sima has even been dubbed as the ‘new Thierry Henry‘, something that made Gooners pay attention.
Sima was a star for Sparta last season. He scored 28 goals and provided eight assists in all competitions, which is a stunning record for a 20-year-old. It is no surprise that he was wanted by so many clubs across Europe.
Brighton close in on Abdallah Sima signing
The Seagulls have been on the lookout for a new striker all summer. They were even linked with Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah at one point, but it looks like they’ve decided to go with Sima, who would be a very good signing.
The Senegalese attacker’s numbers from last season are truly phenomenal. His quality, predictably, was too much for the defenders in the Czech top-flight, but he caused a few problems to clubs in Europe as well, including Arsenal in the Europa League.
When Arsenal were first linked with a move for Sima, he was reportedly valued at a staggering £45 million. However, Brighton are set to complete his signing for as little as £7 million today, which is a huge bargain for a player of his potential.
Arsenal definitely need a new number nine, but our failure to sell two of our strikers has blocked any chance of bringing in a new one. However, the Gunners should’ve still managed to strike a deal with Sparta for Sima.
Mikel Arteta certainly cannot integrate him into our squad now, but signing him now for £7 million and loaning him out to a club like Brighton would’ve been a fantastic move considering our need for a new forward next season.
Arsenal are certain to lose both Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette next year. Sima would’ve been a fantastic option to replace them, but Brighton look to have won the race for him, and they’ll probably sell him to us for a mammoth fee in a few years time.
