Arsenal are weighing up their options ahead of the summer transfer window.

Andrea Berta was unveiled as sporting director and almost instantly, the rumours started regarding strikers Arsenal could sign.

After the Italian’s arrival was announced, David Ornstein revealed Arsenal’s strong interest in Viktor Gyokeres.

Though Gyokeres is well thought of by Berta, the Sweden international isn’t the only striker that is being discussed at the Emirates.

Arsenal discuss Matheus Cunha transfer

Alexander Isak is a target of Arsenal’s however, there’s an understanding that the Newcastle United talisman will be extremely difficult to acquire.

Chalking Isak off the transfer list doesn’t end Arsenal’s search for a goalscorer in the Premier League, with Matheus Cunha another name uttered.

Arsenal made contact with Cunha in the January window, but the forward instead remained at Wolves, penning a new contract.

Within the Brazilian’s new deal was a release clause, giving Arsenal and other interested parties the chance to sign Cunha for just £62.5m

Though the offer sounds tempting, it’s been revealed that the Gunners have some reservations about the forward, doubts that have been discussed.

That’s the understanding of TBR’s transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who told Arsenal Insider the ins and outs of Mikel Arteta’s thoughts on Cunha.

“I think the discipline thing has caused a bit of consternation among clubs, I think Arsenal are one of them.”

Bailey was referring to Cunha’s disciplinary issues, currently serving his second suspension of the Premier League season.

“It is a worry to those clubs and it is being discussed. If you’re paying £60million for a player, they are looking at all the boxes to be checked.

“There are some red flags but that’s not to say Arsenal won’t sign him. There are some concerns there and it is something that has been discussed.”

Discussions about Cunha and his temperament are being spoken about at Arsenal, but should they deter Arteta from signing the Brazil international?

How Cunha could fit into Arsenal’s system

Though Cunha’s 17 goal contributions in the Premier League this season are appealing, it has to be pondered whether the Wolves star would fit into Arteta’s squad.

On quality alone, the 25-year-old would certainly qualify for a starting spot, but just where would that be?

At Wolves, former manager Gary O’Neil unlocked Cunha by recognising that he’s best suited to a roaming number ten role, rather than acting as a traditional number nine.

The ex-Atletico Madrid ace isn’t a target man and is a creator capable of making things out of nothing, something that could suit Arteta’s side as a rival to Martin Odegaard.

Alternatively, Cunha could be called upon as a striker, however, evidence will tell you that the Brazilian comes to life marginally behind the centre-forward.

It’s not only reservations about the Wolves superstar that Arsenal will have to discuss, with a conversation about suitability needing to be had.
