Arsenal have been linked to Bayern Munich striker Mathys Tel ahead of transfer deadline day.
Mikel Arteta made it clear that he wants a forward in the January window, sending a message to Arsenal’s hierarchy amid injury concerns.
The Gunners have been linked to several players this month, including a vast array of attacking talent.
As we head towards the home straight of the winter market, Mathys Tel has emerged as a target, as the Frenchman looks set to leave Bayern Munich.

Vincent Kompany hints at Mathys Tel transfer amid speculation
Tel is a player Arsenal fans want to see at the Emirates very soon, as Fabrizio Romano revealed that the teenager wants to leave Bavaria.
The 19-year-old has reportedly turned down the chance to sign for Chelsea due to fear of additional competition in Enzo Maresca’s chaotic squad.
Arsenal’s interest has been reported, in what could make a smart loan deal for the Gunners given their need for a striker.
Some confusion emerged as hours after the news broke that the forward wants a transfer, Tel was named in the starting lineup for Bayern’s Champions League clash against Slovan Bratislava.
Manager Vincent Kompany was quizzed about Tel’s start and the player’s future, to which he responded with a transfer hint.
“It’s simply deserved. We have many attackers who can score goals and help the team. Mathys deserved to start and hopefully he shows what he can do,” Kompany told the media, before commenting on the attacker’s future.
“There were no other thoughts behind that. Everything else has nothing to do with my job.”
It’s unusual timing for Tel to start for Bayern, considering that the teen has started only three times in all competitions this season.
Tel is the versatile forward that Arsenal need
The primary reason that Tel wants to leave Bayern is due to lack of game time, falling behind a five-star front line in the pecking order.
| Position | Apps | Goals | Assists |
| Centre-forward | 33 | 5 | 1 |
| Left wing | 32 | 7 | 5 |
| Right wing | 13 | 4 | 1 |
For Arteta, the youngster’s availability could be perfect for Arsenal, given what’s needed in attack at present.
As seen above, the forward is deployable in a range of positions, capable of playing all across the front line, including as a striker.
Only time will tell where the Bayern starlet ends up, with a winter move certainly on the player’s wish list.
