Arsenal are yet to have a breakthrough on transfer deadline day, which isn’t expected to change following the latest update.
Mikel Arteta wants to sign a striker before the January transfer deadline but, as the hours go by, such looks increasingly unlikely.
Mathys Tel is the only strong link Arsenal have had on deadline day thus far and now, a blow has emerged regarding the forward’s future.
While Tel would be a strong option for Arteta, a last-gasp move looks to be off the cards for one pressing issue.

Arsenal links to Mathys Tel reach screeching halt due to Bayern Munich demand
Tel wants to leave Bayern to secure minutes elsewhere but, the right move hasn’t yet presented itself to the 19-year-old.
The versatile forward rejected Tottenham and after it became clear that Tel preferred a move to Manchester United, that option disappeared too.
Tel remains on Arsenal’s radar but, it’s now unlikely for the teenager to join Arteta’s project due to Bayern’s demand regarding the conditions of the transfer.
The Guardian shared an update on the matter, reporting that Arsenal have reached an ‘impasse’ over a deal due to the differences in the Gunners’ and Bayern’s desires.
While the Bavarian side want to offload Tel permanently, with a loan including an obligation to buy, it’s believed that Arsenal prefer a loan with the option to purchase.
Given that Bayern and Tottenham agreed a permanent transfer worth £50m, it’s understandable why Arsenal do not want to be lured into purchasing Tel at the end of a loan spell in case things do not work out.
The Guardian rounded off their update by stating that the Gunners are understood to be ‘considering other targets’ but, with time running out, the possibility of a deadline day transfer looks rather unlikely.
Arsenal’s decision on Tel might be right
Being forced into a transfer that could cost around the £50m mark is not Arsenal’s style, making it clear why Arteta and co do not want to agree terms with Bayern.
The transfer must suit what the Gunners want financially as well as on the pitch, with Tel only able to offer half of such.
While the youngster would be a strong capture for Arsenal to make on loan, Bayern’s insistence on an eventual purchase is rather offputting.
It remains to be seen how hard Arsenal will push for Tel and whether the disagreement is the end of the road for all parties.
