Arsenal remain confident that they will complete the signing of Sverre Nypan in the summer transfer window, Arsenal Insider sources understand.

The Gunners are eager to strengthen in almost every department, with a striker, a winger, a midfielder and a goalkeeper all being targeted.

Martin Zubimendi is expected to arrive for £51 million to replace the departing Thomas Partey and Jorginho.

However, there remains a shortage of creative midfielders in Mikel Arteta’s squad, and thus Nypan is also on the agenda.

Arsenal wanted to sign Nypan in January, but the player ultimately opted to remain at Rosenborg.

However, this deal remains on the cards ahead of the summer window.

Arsenal looking to beat Man City to Sverre Nypan signing

Norwegian compatriot Martin Odegaard attempted to convince Nypan to join Arsenal in the winter, but the starlet felt remaining at Rosenborg for another six months was the right thing for his development.

Manchester City were also amongst those looking to pry the youngster away from his home nation, and they’re expected to be in the mix again in the summer.

Speaking to Arsenal Insider, TBR Football’s Graeme Bailey provided an update regarding the transfer saga.

“It was the player’s choice not to do something in January, didn’t think it was the right time,” he explained.

“Arsenal are still confident in doing a deal but the City Group’s approach is going to be different. In January, it was more to do with Girona, with him starting his career there.

“Now it appears there is an avenue for him to go into Man City which does change things.”

With City potentially able to offer Nypan first-team football as the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva move towards the exit door, Arsenal may have a significantly more difficult task on their hands regarding securing the 18-year-old’s signature.

However, Bailey revealed that those within the Emirates walls remain confident.

“Martin Odegaard has done his work on it, he’s trying to sway him there. Ironically though, there is a fair Norwegian base at Man City as well with Haaland and Oscar Bobb.

“Arsenal still confident they are in a good position to get him and we’ll see what he decides in the coming weeks and months before the summer, where we fully expect him to make a move of sorts.”

How ready is Sverre Nypan to make an impact at Arsenal?

Only turning 18 in December, it’d be fair to suggest that Nypan isn’t ready to make an immediate impact at Premier League level.

However, by all accounts, the Norway under-21 international already looks physically mature enough to compete on the highest stage and his technical level is outstanding.

Of course, it’s very difficult to gage how good he is given the league he’s playing in, but the raw ingredients and the statistics look promising.

Eight goals and six assists in just 28 appearances is an exceptional return for a midfielder of his age, while he’s also managing well over two shots per 90 minutes.

Nypan has been compared to Odegaard, and it’s not hard to see why when watching footage of him.

The teenager glides across the pitch in a similar manner to the Arsenal captain, while his passing is also crisp and relentlessly progressive.
