Though focus is on the signings Arsenal welcome to the Emirates this summer, the Gunners are also working hard to retain their stars.

After two and a half years of service, Arsenal bid farewell to Jorginho, who will leave the club to sign for Flamengo as a free agent.

The Italian isn’t the only Gunner whose contract expires this summer, however, Arsenal are still working to keep Thomas Partey at the club.

It’s not only the immediate contracts that are being worked on, as Mikel Arteta will want to retain his key players over the next few years, something newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta is already addressing.

Gabriel’s new contract ensures future stability for Arsenal

Berta has reacted to several 2026 expiring contracts as talks over a new deal for Myles Lewis-Skelly have commenced.

The same can be said for Leandro Trossard, who is in discussion about a new contract, but they’re not the only ones.

What will come as music to Arsenal fans’ ears is that Gabriel Magalhaes is close to signing a fresh deal at the Emirates, which will take his stay to 2030.

It’s been a remarkable season for Gabriel, who, despite ending the campaign on the sidelines, showed his impact just as much when he was out of action.

William Saliba is not the same without Gabriel, which, while being an immediate concern, only emphasises just how essential the Brazilian is to Arsenal’s core.

If there’s one player Arsenal would not want to lose on the back of the 2024/25 campaign, it’s the 27-year-old, who has proven that he’s one of the most integral components of Arteta’s project.

Tying Gabriel down to a new deal doesn’t only represent a change in Arsenal’s stance regarding retaining star players, but also symbolises a bright future for the core of the defence.

Mikel Arteta struck gold with Gabriel

What is most charming about Gabriel is how he has grown alongside Arsenal in recent years, signing in 2020 and being a part of the eighth-place finishing squad in his first season.

The Brazilian has worked tremendously hard to fine-tune his game since his £27m arrival, which only echoes what Arteta said about the centre-back at the time.

“He has many qualities which will make us stronger as a defensive unit and as a team,” Arteta told Arsenal’s official website when Gabriel was unveiled.

It’s not only on the pitch that the Brazil international has proven himself, as the trajectory of his market value is something to behold.

Gabriel’s value sits around £60m, representing more than double his transfer fee, which will only increase once his new contract is signed.

Tying down parts of the core is a significant triumph for Arteta, who is set to have Gabriel in his plans for the foreseeable future.
