Arsenal have always been meticulous when it comes to appointing managers.

Very rarely does the club appoint a manager who doesn’t come highly recommended from within or have a past connection – Unai Emery is the only recent exception after impressing during his interview.

George Graham was already a legend at the club from his playing days, whilst Arsene Wenger had been on David Dein’s radar for many years before he joined Arsenal.

Current manager Mikel Arteta spent five years at the Emirates Stadium as a player before taking the reins. Cesc Fabregas has been touted as a potential replacement for Arteta following his success in Italy however, there may be a candidate already inside the Gunners…

Jorginho will return as Arsenal manager

Jorginho confirmed his Arsenal departure after spending just over two years with the club following his £12m transfer in January 2023.

Arsenal fans were sad to see Jorginho leave after the Italian midfielder impressed during his spell in North London.

Speaking on his social media account, Jorginho left a cryptic message to fans during his farewell speech and stated: “It’s time to say goodbye or maybe see you soon…”

Jorginho is set to join Flamengo this summer to see out his playing days, however, a return to the Gunners one day as part of the coaching staff or even in the hot seat itself could be on the cards.

What Jorginho has said about becoming a coach

As per The Sun, Jorginho told former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman on the ‘Seaman Says’ podcast that he changed his mind about becoming a coach after he joined Arteta’s side.

Jorginho stated: “I was like, ‘No way, I want to be involved in football, but no hope or chance I’ll be a coach’. Then I came to Arsenal and they asked me if you wanted to do badges and I said, ‘No, I don’t want to be a coach’.

“After some encouragement I did them and in the first session I was saying, ‘Oh no why did I do this, now I’m in trouble’. And I think I’ll go for it [a coaching career] now.”

Ben White believes Jorginho will become a manager and given that the Gunners like to appoint managers with a love for the club, the Italian’s Arsenal adventure may not be quite finished yet…
