Arsenal could now be close to sanctioning a departure which enables them to sign Eberechi Eze this summer.

The Gunners have been active in this window, acquiring six players to bolster Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Viktor Gyokeres arrived in a £63 million deal as the marquee addition, while the likes of Noni Madueke, Martin Zubimendi, and Cristhian Mosquera have all joined the North Londoners.

Despite this flurry of activity, Arsenal still want to sign Eze, although reports have consistently suggested that a major sale needs to be made for this to happen.

Leandro Trossard ‘set to leave’ Arsenal this summer

The likes of Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson are all expected to depart N5 before the window slams shut at the end of August.

However, with all three clearly surplus to requirements, their respective departures are unlikely to prompt the Gunners to pursue Eze.

Instead, a more prominent member of Arteta’s squad will have to leave to accommodate the Crystal Palace man, and it’s looking increasingly likely that this will be Leandro Trossard.

Trossard has been linked with Galatasaray this week, and now more concrete reports have emerged suggesting he’s almost definitely on his way out of North London.

According to Sami Mokbel of the BBC, the Belgian is ‘set to leave’ the Gunners this summer.

Alongside Nelson and Vieira, Arsenal are looking to move Trossard on to make room for and raise funds for the potential signing of Eze.

Previous reports have indicated that the former Brighton man is open to leaving the Emirates, with his entourage scouring the market for potential moves away.

Trossard is currently recovering from an injury sustained in pre-season, and thus, may have already played his final game in a red and white shirt.

Arsenal have to sign Eberechi Eze if they sell Leandro Trossard

Trossard has been described as ‘underrated’ in the past, with his ability to play across the front line and as an advanced midfielder invaluable to Arteta’s team in the last two-and-a-half years.

The 30-year-old has been an exceptional squad player for Arteta to have at his disposal, and if he is moved on, he’ll need to be properly replaced.

If the Belgium international does depart, surely Arsenal will then complete a move for Eze.

While the Englishman is likely to cost significantly more than the Gunners will bring in for Trossard, the finances aren’t understood to be what is stopping Andrea Berta from moving for Eze right away.

It’s merely been a question of squad space, with Eze and Trossard certainly not able to co-exist in the same squad, alongside the likes of Madueke and Gabriel Martinelli.
