Borussia Dortmund open talks to sign £17m Arsenal star who is very keen to leave the Emirates

With just over two weeks of the January transfer window remaining, it seems as if Arsenal could be very busy.

Gabriel Jesus’ serious knee injury has caused further problems for Arsenal in attack, and Mikel Arteta will surely be pushing the club to find a solution, even if it is short-term.

Arsenal have bid for Dusan Vlahovic according to reports, but it remains to be seen how viable any move for the Juventus striker will be this month.

Of course, it’s not just going to be about those who could arrive at the Emirates Stadium this month.

Oleksandr Zinchenko is one of a few Arsenal players who Arteta would be willing to lose mid-season.

A host of Arsenal defenders are available for sale, an area of the squad that has become quite bloated.

Borussia Dortmund pushing to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Arsenal

That being said, German journalist Florian Plettenberg has just shared news on X that Borussia Dortmund are attempting to sign Zinchenko on loan.

Zinchenko watched on as an unused substitute during Arsenal’s recent FA Cup defeat against Manchester United, when Kieran Tierney was even called upon.

Now, Plettenberg is reporting that ‘concrete talks’ have taken place between Dortmund and Zinchenko’s representatives in the last few days, with the defender keen to leave north London.

Plettenberg wrote: “Borussia Dortmund are exploring a deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko!

“Concrete talks have already taken place with the player’s management in the last days and are ongoing. The 28y/o left-back is keen to leave Arsenal.

“Gunners open for a loan with an obligation to buy of approximately €20m. BVB had already shown interest last summer.”

An interesting turn of events for the Gunners, who seem unlikely to stand in Zinchenko’s way.

Jakub Kiwior will be forced to stay if Oleksandr Zinchenko leaves Arsenal

It’s long been thought that Arsenal would prefer to keep Jakub Kiwior until at least the summer.

The club have been prepared to lose Zinchenko and Kieran Tierney in January, but Kiwior would need to stay to cover for those departures.

Kiwior wants to leave Arsenal, but the defender is unlikely to push for a move immediately, given the club’s situation.

Dortmund’s interest in Zinchenko could be ideal for the Gunners, who will then have one less job when overhauling their squad in the summer.

As mentioned, it will be a busy month for Arsenal’s transfer team, who can no longer ignore an opportunity to improve the options available to Arteta.
