One player Arsenal made contact with in the January transfer window is preparing for a summer move.
All eyes were on what the Gunners would do during the winter market, however, no new arrivals were evident at the Emirates.
Arsenal’s January transfer window was a failure, seeing Mikel Arteta’s plea for a striker signing ignored by the board.
Though the talk of the window was Arsenal’s last-gasp attempt to sign Ollie Watkins, the Aston Villa forward wasn’t the only Premier League star the North Londoners made contact with.

Matheus Cunha makes transfer status clear
Late into the January window, it was reported that Arsenal made contact with Matheus Cunha, sending the Wolves forward into a transfer dilemma.
The saga ended as the Brazilian penned a new deal at Molineux, although Cunha’s agent was tempted by interest before a new contract was agreed.
Wolves’ star man is the name on everyone’s lips this season, having racked up 19 goal contributions so far for the side who were threatened by relegation earlier in the calendar.
Cunha’s form will be on Arsenal’s mind heading into the summer, with the player himself now hinting at what his next steps will be.
Speaking to The Guardian, the 25-year-old commented on the interest he received in the January window.
“I had a lot of offers but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” Cunha explained.
“Some things you can’t control but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.”
What came next will be of interest to Arsenal and other interested clubs, as Cunha all but confirmed that he will leave Wolves at the end of the summer.
“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up]. But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
Andrea Berta is aware of Cunha’s quality
Given what the Brazilian has done for Wolves this season, the forward could become quite the bargain for a club like Arsenal.
| Statistic | Matheus Cunha | Kai Havertz | Gabriel Jesus |
| Played | 26 | 21 | 17 |
| Goals | 13 | 9 | 3 |
| Big chances missed | 2 | 15 | 3 |
| Assists | 4 | 3 | 0 |
| Big chances created | 12 | 3 | 1 |
| Key passes per match | 1.7 | 0.8 | 0.5 |
Cunha’s release clause is only £62.5m, a price affordable to the Gunners, who will be looking for a Premier League-level goalscorer to join the squad.
Another boost Arsenal have is the arrival of Andrea Berta as sporting director.
Berta has a history with Cunha, both signing and selling the player during his time at Atletico Madrid.
Will Arsenal’s new sporting director be involved with the Brazil international’s future for a third time? The summer will reveal all.
