Viktor Gyokeres gives green light to Premier League club as Arsenal target ‘open to moving’

Viktor Gyokeres was a name on Arsenal’s radar, and a fresh update suggests that the striker could be on his way to England.

Newly appointed sporting director Andrea Berta is an admirer of Gyokeres, who has been turning heads since his transfer from Coventry City to Sporting CP in 2023. 

Since his move, the Swede has scored 97 goals, making Arsenal’s reported interest understandable as Mikel Arteta hunts for a number nine. 

Arsenal were linked to Gyokeres by David Ornstein before the 2025 summer transfer window opened, but now, the Gunners are at risk of missing out on Sporting’s marksman.

Viktor Gyokeres open to Manchester United transfer

If there’s one thing that Arsenal would’ve been wary of, it’s Gyokeres’ relationship with Ruben Amorim. 

Amorim developed the striker in Lisbon, making the forward’s links to Manchester United unsurprising. 

Arsenal are aware of United’s interest in Gyokeres, and despite early links suggesting the Gunners could strike a deal, it appears that the Red Devils have got ahead. 

Journalist Ben Jacobs shared the latest on Gyokeres’ future, doubling down that the 27-year-old is on United’s list. 

Jacobs revealed that Gyokeres is ‘open to moving’ to United, even though the Red Devils missed out on Champions League football after Tottenham won the Europa League. 

That doesn’t seem to faze the Sweden international, who is understood to want to stay in Europe despite links to Saudi Pro League clubs.

Sporting want €70m (£59m) for their talisman, who is open to the idea of reconnecting with Amorim this summer.

What this means for Arsenal remains to be seen, but it’s thought that the Gunners are focused on Benjamin Sesko.

It’s no surprise that Man United are eager to sign Gyokeres after finishing 15th in the Premier League table.

Amorim needs to put his stamp on his squad, which, for all of United’s faults, is being supported as the Red Devils didn’t waste any time recruiting Arsenal target Matheus Cunha. 

Those at Old Trafford aren’t the only ones to have started the transfer window with intent, as Liverpool, Manchester City, and Chelsea have completed potentially decisive signings.

All eyes are on who Arsenal recruit as their new striker, with the latest reports suggesting that Gyokeres is drifting away.
