Winners and losers from Lucien Agoume’s transfer to Arsenal including Myles Lewis-Skelly and Declan Rice impact

Arsenal are planning for another midfield arrival this summer in addition to Martin Zubimendi.

Thomas Partey is edging closer to an Arsenal exit after the midfielder hit a stalemate in contract talks over his wages.

Zubimendi will join Arsenal this summer but given that Jorginho has already departed for Flamengo, Mikel Arteta will be keen to add another central midfield option.

Arsenal are interested in signing Lucien Agoume from Spanish outfit Sevilla and Arsenal Insider has taken a look at the potential impact of another new midfielder on the current squad.

Winners from Lucien Agoume’s transfer to Arsenal

Andrea Berta

Andrea Berta is under severe pressure to deliver the right players for the club this summer after two disappointing transfer windows in succession in the eyes of Arsenal fans.

Losing Partey would be a blow to his plans as the sporting director is focused on bringing Benjamin Sesko or Viktor Gyokeres to North London in order to fill the vacant striker void.

Rodrygo is another name that the club are interested in to provide depth on the flanks and despite Arsenal’s reported £200m budget, that money soon dwindles after recruiting players of that calibre.

Agoume is available for just £17m and in today’s market, he could represent one of the value deals of the summer with his athleticism and strength in the number six position.

Mikel Arteta

Arteta is under pressure to deliver a trophy next season and will be mindful of the pitfalls that cost his side dear during the last campaign.

The Gunners boss cannot afford to leave himself short in any areas of the pitch if he is to compete on all four trophy fronts and Agoume would provide some much-needed competition in the middle of the park.

Zubimendi is likely to be Arteta’s first choice as the holding midfielder however, Agoume will be the perfect replacement for the Spaniard when squad rotation is necessary.

Declan Rice

Declan Rice enjoyed his best season for the Gunners in an advanced number eight role and found his shooting boots by securing his most prolific campaign in front of goal.

Zubimendi’s arrival is good news for Rice as he will be able to continue stamping his authority further forward.

Should the Gunners secure the signature of Agoume, it would only further secure Rice not having to fill in at the base of the midfield, a position he struggled in during the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Losers from Lucien Agoume’s transfer to Arsenal

Albert Sambi Lokonga

Albert Sambi Lokonga may have seen a little ray of hope to his Gunners career when news broke of Partey’s potential departure.

However, Agoume’s arrival would surely see the Belgian leave the club this summer and continue to develop his career elsewhere.

Lokonga could be used in a swap deal for Agoume after spending the season on loan at Sevilla but the young midfielder looks to have had his Arsenal return dream dashed.

Myles Lewis-Skelly

Myles Lewis-Skelly’s new Arsenal contract is set to secure his status as one of the club’s most important players moving forward.

Despite having impressed as a left back so far in his short career, Lewis-Skelly is predominantly a central midfielder and would have been eyeing up the position upon Partey’s departure.

Arsenal’s interest in Jorrel Hato was an indication that the Hale End star would be considered as a midfield option but a move for Agoume would once again put that in doubt.
